I got the opportunity to spend this Valentine Sunday with my best Valentine yet and what did we do? We participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count. We sat by the window watching the bird feeders for about fifteen minutes, since that’s all that she could handle, and counted the birds flitting in and out.
As always, our little squirt was crazy about the winged critters that she was getting to see, but unfortunately, we didn’t have very many visitors for the day. In our fifteen minute period our count showed: 5 Black-capped Chickadees, 1 American Goldfinch, 2 Pine Siskins and 1 male Downy woodpecker. Although it was slow, we still had a great time participating in this great citizen-science project! There is one more day left, take time to count some birds for science!!!
