Seeds, seeds everywhere! Fall is a time for seeds to take flight, float around, and drop to the ground all in an effort to get away from their parent plant. Take advantage of the natural order of the year to investigate seed dispersal techniques and the power of gravity.

In this episode, we’ll talk about seed dispersal activities that are paired with Next Generation Science Standards for grades 2nd and 5th. I’ll share the standard that inspired the activity, how the activity relates to seed dispersal, and descriptions of how to use the activity with your learners.

The following standards are paired with seed dispersal activities:

2nd Grade: 2-LS2-2: Develop a simple model that mimics the function of an animal in dispersing seeds or pollinating plants.
5th Grade: 5-PS2-1: Support an argument that the gravitational force exerted by Earth on objects is directed down.
